The data is annual, so it's great for timelines. Census tract level enables to see neighbourhood level change. And T1FF data goes beyond just income variables, here is a view into the annual change of 5-11 year olds 2001 through 2017. 
Of course the data has lots of income related variables. Here is the change in (inflation-adjusted) median couple family income between 2001 and 2017.
And it covers all census tracts in Canada. So it's easy to do this for any region within a Canadian CMA. For example, here is the change in low income people 2005-2017 for all census tracts within the City of Toronto.
How easy is it to make this graph? I am glad you asked. Very easy. Two lines to pull in the data and another couple of lines to compute the change and make a plot.
T1FF data comes on varying census geography depending on the year. For comparability we need it on a uniform geography. The ‘get_tongfen_census_ct’ call from the {tongfen} 📦 automates this, it’s the magic that takes the headache out of creating timelines. mountainmath.github.io/tongfen/index.…
