This is a good reflection of Nikole Hannah-Jones' approach to almost all intellectual discussions. No different than when she dismissed criticism of her work from leading historians because of their skin color.

Horrifying that the NYT continues to give her such a large platform
Here was the original tweet from @baseballcrank countering her attack on Van Jones and ignorant insistence that African Americans have no control over their own lives.

Imagine accusing VAN JONES(!!!) of promoting racism because he is encouraging that people in the community being hit hardest by the COVID-19 virus try to adjust their lifestyle choices to improve their chances against it IN ADDITION to changes in our public systems.

Crazy.
Such a toxic and dangerous mindset. The same premise behind the error-prone and narrative-driven 1619 project, which unfortunately is now being used by some schools.

Just stop. You started with a conclusion and decided to look for data to fit that conclusion. That’s why you looked at a chart of confirmed new cases without any accounting for testing variation, reporting methods, or population size.
There is no one who can reasonably look at the data and suggest we are doing worse (or even nearly as bad) as most of Western Europe, which is the only place we can really compare to for several important reasons.
People who were predicting 0 divergence between New York and San Francisco a month ago should probably show a little more humility in their declarations about the quality of our response:

An accuser changing their story repeatedly, not being able to provide basic details on location and time, & having parts of their story contradicted by witnesses should be giant red flags re the accusation. But those things were dismissed as irrelevant when it came to CB Ford.
I remember how much heat many of us took for pointing out the holes in the accusations against Kavanaugh. Now the same people who smeared and attacked anyone who wouldn’t adopt their insane standard back then are insisting that standard is no longer reasonable.
Whenever anyone would point out that Ford’s accusation had serious issues, they would be accused of attacking a sexual assault victim. Yet now it’s apparently alright to try to weigh the evidence in Reade’s case or even simply dismiss the allegation.

We won't know the full long-term consequences for some time, but the evidence thus far mostly supports Trump's conclusion here.
First, Sweden's current death rate is significantly above their neighbors. It also is not showing signs of slowing.

Whole argument to justify that is that they would reach herd immunity quickly, but that's an assumption unsupported by evidence thus far.

If you applied that to the United States, it would likely mean hundreds of thousands more deaths in the first wave based on the possibility those deaths would have occurred anyways later, but that is not assured at all.
