I joke, but here is the problem
There’s simply no alternative in climate modeling studies to RCP8.5 (and now SSP5-7.0 & SSP5-8.5) as a baseline scenario
So it must be used
The only free variable is the excuse given for using it
With BAU no longer tenable, new ones are needed
