I plan to do followup reporting on this. I hope to get in touch with her family and also ask federal officials why they couldn't delay her transfer given her case was already dragging on since summer 2018.
Circle bear was serving just over two years on a low-level drug case involving an informant.
Here's what the U.S. Attorney said when she was sentenced:
“Don’t let yourself or your property get mixed up in the world of illegal drugs. It ends badly.”

OK I thought this thread was over but I have more sad news. Multiple sources are telling me Circle Bear is the sister-in-law of Sarah Circle Bear, a 24-year-old who died in the Brown County Jail in 2015.

Sarah had two kids and her family says she was pregnant when she died:
Sarah died of a meth overdose while in jail. The family and some witnesses say staff ignored her pleas for help but the state said staff did respond and cleared the jail of any wrongdoing. There is an ongoing lawsuit:
This says Circle Bear came from a jail in OK. If true, does this mean the U.S. Marshals are doing pit stops during coronavirus? The more bookings/contacts, the more dangerous it seems for everyone.
Via @ScottGordonNBC5: March 28 she was "transported to JPS w/ high fever+signs of coronavirus, but returned to the prison, the sources said ... her conditions worsened+she was diagnosed with pneumonia, and she returned to the hospital by ambulance, a third person confirmed.

More from @ScottGordonNBC5: "A source who works in the medical community confirmed Friday the baby was doing well, but the mother remains in critical condition."
At least one person has written on FB that the baby is with the mother's family. Will work to confirm.

Important point to add before I go to bed. We don't know where Circle Bear got the virus. It could have been back in Winner, in OK (if that part is correct), in prison, at the hospital or during transfer between any of these places. 10/x
I have confirmed with a spokesman for the Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe that Andrea Circle Bear was a member.
This was my assumption but I wanted to confirm because sometimes tribal members live on reservations of other tribes.

It was the second time she had to face and identify Teddy Guzman in court after a Pennington County jury couldn't unanimously decide last year whether he raped three young girls.
The girl cried when asked to identify Guzman in court. Her mother pointed at him but refused to look at him. The father, who used to be best friends with Guzman, said he wanted to kill him after his daughter said he raped her.

The girl was weepy throughout her testimony and began to cry and cover her face several times. Her parents' description of how she's changed was so sad.

I'm going through the videos on my own so it's going to be a while. Some things stand out from video one so far:
-Ravnsborg never said he searched the whole area that night. Prosecutors say his phone data shows this.
1/x
-He never said the sheriff searched the area. The prosecutors say the sheriff said he searched the area with a light. Maybe the AG forgot to mention this.
2/x
-After they find the body the next morning the sheriff tells the AG he will call DCI and the AG goes home to Pierre rather than wait to be interviewed on the scene. Why would the sheriff call DCI, not Highway Patrol?

➡️Ravnsborg's crimes and misdemeanors that caused the death of Joseph Boever on September 12, 2020
➡️Ravnsborg's statements+actions in reporting the crime and the resulting investigation.
I'm super interested in this second part, which is more about ethics and protocol than the law.
A single mom+college student in the Black Hills found a cat w/ broken bones She put a ~$2,000 bill on her card b/c he needed surgery ASAP. However she needs helping paying that bill. If you want to help, call the vet at 605-342-1368 +say you want to add to Kali Njos' account. 1/2
After an impromptu creation on forested tribal land just west of Rapid City, the camp has become highly organized with:
➡️ Large, warm army tents
➡️ A food pantry+mess hall
➡️ Meal train+transportation systems
➡️ Downtown drop site for local+mailed in donations
2/x
The camp does not have structured leadership, strict admission policies, and steps that residents must take to continue receiving services like some nonprofits do. The goal is to keep people alive and safe, treat residents with dignity and avoid criminalization.
