I think it comes down to the distinction between people who support hierarchy v. people who support democracy and fairness.

Those who think the purpose of government is to maintain hierarchy support Trump.

Those who think government should create fairness oppose him.
Libertarians think there is a third option: No government.

But no government creates a hierarchy very quickly.
Actually, I'll fine tune my language.

"People who think the purpose of government is to allow for hierarchy" is probably a better phrasing.

They think nature naturally forms a hierarchy, and governments "imposing" fairness disrupts the natural order.
