For weeks, @RepPressley & I have fought hard for @CDCgov to collect & report COVID-19 demographic data. So far the data expose deep inequities for communities of color. The federal govt now must act to help those being hit hardest by this pandemic. pbs.org/newshour/natio…
Structural racism has kept people of color from accessing health care, safe & affordable housing, & financial security. The incomplete data show that Black & Brown communities are suffering & dying more from this virus because of those inequities. democrats.senate.gov/dpcc/press-rep…
Data alone is not enough. The federal government has a responsibility to direct information & resources to communities being devastated by this virus. We want to know how the COVID-19 Task Force plans to address these racial & other demographic disparities.

Last night’s attacks on peaceful protesters near the White House demanding justice for George Floyd were appalling. Trump acted more like a wannabe authoritarian than Commander in Chief. Here’s some of the things I’ve been working on today to hold this administration accountable:
Secretary @EsperDoD and CJCS Milley need to testify before the Senate immediately. The American people deserve to understand what role the @DeptofDefense played in the Lafayette Square attacks on protesters just so Trump could have a photo-op.
I’ve asked the @DoD_IG to conduct an immediate investigation into the role of @DeptofDefense civilian and military officials at protests in Washington DC and other cities throughout the country.

COVID-19 is clearly a grave danger to workers’ health. So it’s mind-boggling that @OSHA_DOL’s inspections & citations plummeted in the crisis. I’ve requested @DOLOIG investigate whether OSHA failed to meet its legal requirement to protect workplace safety. huffpost.com/entry/senate-d…
@USDOL should have issued an OSHA Emergency Temporary Standard for COVID-19 months ago – enforceable workplace safety rules for the pandemic. It refused. Workers are dying from COVID-19 & @OSHA_DOL claims emergency safety standards to protect workers wouldn’t help. Unbelievable.
I’m going to keep fighting for my Essential Workers Bill of Rights, & @SenatorBaldwin & @SenDuckworth’s bill to make @OSHA_DOL issue an ETS for COVID-19. But @USDOL already has power right now to help protect American workers. @DOLOIG should explain why they’re failing to use it.

In April, @SenTinaSmith & I wrote a $50 billion bailout plan to save and strengthen our child care system. We’re glad to partner with Ranking Member @PattyMurray and Chairs @RosaDeLauro and @BobbyScott on the bill to turn that plan into law. nytimes.com/2020/05/27/ups…
The Child Care is Essential Act provides emergency grants to keep child care providers in business and workers on payroll during the crisis. It ensures child care for essential workers. And it makes long-term investments so more families can find affordable, high-quality care.
It was already nearly impossible to find good, affordable child care in this country. Now parents won’t be able to safely return to work if the system collapses. Congress must pass this bill for emergency relief funding as a critical part of our recovery. vox.com/2020/4/15/2122…
