Hypnosis Mic Side DH & BAT started earlier this month on Magazine Pocket. Summary to follow. Please mute #hypmanga if you're concerned about spoilers! Image
Beat 1
The chapter begins with a recap of HypMic where the world enters the H-era. War with weapons was eliminated and a special mic was used to allow words to contain power. Men formed divisions and used the mics to battle for territories called Division Rap Battle. #hypmanga
We find present-day Sasara boarding a taxi as he is stopped by fans. Even the driver who claims his daughter is a fan asks for an autograph. Gazing into the distance, he thinks back to the times he always had to fake a smile as a child. #hypmanga
But that all changed when he encountered a certain comedian on TV. From that day, he began to smile more and watch comedy shows frantically. To him, comedy saved him more than any superhero can. He reaches his apartment where he gets a delivery from the Central Ward. #hypmanga
This part picks up in the drama CD where Sasara is sent the Hypnosis Mics and is requested to collect members for his team. Sasara thinks about who to team up with and a familiar face crosses his mind. #hypmanga
It all started 8 years ago.
A flashback of Sasara's past begins as we find him going to an audition for a specialty school for comedians. He looks around and thinks his fellow competitors appeared quite entertaining until one fierce-looking guy suddenly makes his way. #hypmanga
It is Rosho (without his glasses). Everyone begins to avoid him as Sasara wonders why a thug like him would be there. The audition commences as the judges give harsh, yet sarcastic criticism to the contestants. Sasara begins feeling uncomfortable as Rosho steps up. #hypmanga
Rosho immediately walks up to the judges and kicks the table, enraged. He states how they are welcome to criticize him but only if they can humor him more. The judges are furious as Sasara is drawn back at the sudden argument breaking out. #hypmanga
That's when Sasara's bad habit comes out and tries to ease the mood with a pun. The room turns silent until the angry judges throw the two out. Sasara weeps as he thinks his road to comedic fame has come to an end. Rosho mutters a short apology before walking off. #hypmanga
Some time passes as we find both of them seated at the school's entry ceremony despite the fiasco they caused. Sasara makes a mental note not to get too close to Rosho as the school principal makes a speech about how "everyone has the potential to become famous." #hypmanga
Sasara yawns as he thinks, realistically only a handful will actually sell but there's no way anyone would burst people's dreams at a place like this. #hypmanga
Just as he was getting bored, a famous comedian, Tamon Hyokin from Mokarimakka Hompo (How's The Business Going Head Quarters) makes an appearance on the podium. He also happens to be the comedian on TV that Sasara admired. #hypmanga
Sasara is shocked as Hyokin spells out Sasara's thoughts and adds how it is also a talent to draw the line on your own talent when you know you have reached your limit. He ends with corny joke as the audience is left at awe... except for Sasara who finds it hilarious. #hypmanga
As Sasara goes to get a melon cream soda from a vending machine, he is called over by Hyokin. He spotted Sasara cracking the lame pun at the audition and thought both him and Rosho were great. #hypmanga
He comments how the school has no eye for humor and convinced the judges to keep the two enrolled for the sake of their school. Sasara thanks him as Hyokin mentions "those who can sell, can sell anywhere" and hopes he can see Sasara around in the future. #hypmanga
The school begins as Sasara and Rosho happen to end up in the same class. Peering over, Sasara still thinks Rosho's fierce appearance doesn't seem to give off the comedic impression. The instructor comes in as he watches students perform. He remains unamused. #hypmanga
Rosho's turn comes up as he tells his joke. But no one gets it. Rosho is displeased as Sasara's turn comes up and does his performance. The students all laugh, but again, the instructor remains disinterested and comments how unrealistic Sasara's joke was. #hypmanga
Keeping his thoughts to himself, Sasara's classmates later compliment him and explain how the instructor is harsh to those he thinks is funnier than him. His classmates then ask whether Sasara wants to partner up with anyone as many begin to volunteer. #hypmanga
"Sasara had thoughts of teaming up, but he hasn't found anyone that humored him.
Pondering, Sasara makes his way to the top of Tsutenkaku tower to clear his thoughts. #hypmanga"
As a child, whenever he felt down, he would go to the top of Tsutenkaku and gaze at the busy streets of Osaka and tried to feel better. Young Sasara would see his parents fight and to make them get along, he would mock comedians on TV to bring smiles to his household. #hypmanga
But they ended up filing a divorce and Sasara was taken by his father. Looking back, he wasn't even sure what was considered funny when he, himself was faking smiles constantly. #hypmanga
Snapping out of his thoughts, he suddenly notices Rosho who begins climbing the fence of the tower. Shocked, Sasara grabs him down and yells at him saying jumping off a tower is no joke. Rosho is confused as he yells back claiming he was not there to jump. #hypmanga
Scene changes to a cafe with Sasara having a cream soda and Rosho with a pudding. Apparently, Rosho was thinking of doing a Tsutenkaku joke. Sasara asks to see this 'joke' but not only did he not get it, but also did not understand why he was climbing the fence. #hypmanga
Rosho claims he wanted to reach the tip of the Tsutenkaku to see the view as a reference for his joke. While remaining confused, Sasara apologizes for interrupting him while he was plotting. Rosho understands how Sasara was only trying to help. #hypmanga
Rosho thinks he owes Sasara again but Sasara doesn't think it's needed since it wasn't intentional. But he stresses how he is still in debt. Sasara's impression of Rosho begins to change and questions why he looks and acts like a thug. #hypmanga
Rosho explains how his parents were strict teachers that made him rebel. So from a rebellious thug, Sasara then questions why he wants to become a comedian. Rosho states how no one around him was funny so he figured he should become a comedian and make others laugh. #hypmanga
With similar intentions, Sasara begins to grow curious and thinks of teaming with someone as interesting as him. But despite his will to entertain, Rosho struggles of not being able to explain his sense of humor. Sasara advises changing his perspective. #hypmanga
He lifts a glass cup and asks Rosho what it is. The majority will say it's a cup. But Rosho's jokes hit the minority. It's a good thing to see things differently from the norm, but if you stray far too off, no one can follow it. #hypmanga
Rosho is creative but his perspective is a bit out of this world and the humor is lost. Sasara tries to do a different variation of Rosho's earlier joke. People in the cafe begin to gather to watch Sasara as he quickly queues Rosho in. #hypmanga
He chimes in as they both make the crowd laugh and ask for more. Sasara decides to take on their request and ask Rosho to strike the pun when Sasara cracks the joke. That is when the decide to do an improv show together on the spot. (end of beat-1) #hypmanga
