Western civilisation is falling &, given its present trajectory, will be gone by the end of this century, but because we are so preoccupied with work, our families & living our lives, we have little time to notice. And when we do, we quickly distract ourselves.
Because it doesn't bear thinking about, especially when you have young children or grandchildren who will one day curse us for screwing up their future. @GretaThunberg is already speaking up for them, but although she is applauded, our trajectory remains the same.
We can't help ourselves, because we lack understanding, let down by the academics we look to as authorities on understanding our situation: primarily, social & political scientists, who, like their medieval counterparts, wield the power of their misplaced authority.
But it is no good getting angry with them. Like their medieval predecessors, they mean well, but, prioritise their own, personal self-interests, which means asserting their authority & the ideology on which it is based: never mind the truth or where their ignorance is leading us.
It is academic ignorance, authority & ideology that is causing our civilisation to fall. But it is only academics themselves who can correct this. Some of them, at least, must become aware of how misguided their social, economic & political ideology is, & set about correcting it.
Academic social & political ideology has been massively influenced by an overreaction to the evils of Nazism, going to the opposite but equally misguided ideological extremes of post-racial multiculturalism & DIVERSITY, which are Orwellian.
Orwellian, because the ideology serves as an instrument of socio-political intimidation & control, telling people how they should & shouldn't FEEL & THINK about RACE.
State & academic authority have no business telling us how to FEEL or THINK about ANYTHING.

Whether socialism, capitalism or some combination of the two, academic economic ideology is also totally misconceived, because of their failure to understand evolved human nature & tribalism, which, in the service of their state employer, they choose to demonise instead.
If we are to create just, humane & sustainable societies on our finite, vulnerable & overpopulated planet, Spaceship Earth, we must understand & learn to work with evolved human nature & tribalism, harnessing them for good, rather than for evil, as the Nazis did.
