What's the world coming to?

Whoever claims to live in Hum must live as Jesus did. V.6

How did Jesus deal with the world?
1. He turned the ideals and systems upside down.

2. He lived in the world, but was not OF the world.

John 17: 14-18

3. He redefined what it really meant to be a human.
- Rom. 12:2, Ja 1:27, Ja 4:4

1 John 2:15-17 uses "world" 6X

What is the world?
1. Systems, values, beliefs and morals DISTINCT from God.
- Same life from the beginning: "Did God really say...?"

2. The world is evil, brings death, ruled by the evil one & the gods of this world - eros (sex), mammon ($), ego

3. The world is wholly different than God and opposed to God.

What does it mean to love the world?
1. Defined by boiling with passion, lust, desire, craving, wanting
2. Living for my sinful nature, for what I see, and for what I have.

3. Loving created things over the creator--idolatry.
4. Like loving the sparkles of a lure…promising, but never delivering.

1 John 2:6 "Whoever claims to live in him, must live as Jesus did."

If you're having an obedience problem, it's because you're having a love problem.

How did Jesus deal with temptation?
1. Jesus fought lies with truth.
- Matt. 4:3-4 "Jesus answered, 'it is written'..."
- Great starters: 2Cor 5:17, Rom 6, 1 Thess 4:
- John 5:19, John 17:4

2. Jesus knew and used the Word of God.
3. Jesus always did the will of God.
4. Jesus loved the Father naturally, vibrantly, fully

Don’t love the world’s ways.

Don’t love the world’s goods.

Love of the world squeezes out love for the Father.

Practically everything that goes on in the world:

- Wanting your own way
- Wanting everything for yourself
- Wanting to appear important

—has nothing to do with the Father. It just isolates you from him.

The world and all its wanting, wanting, wanting is on the way out—but whoever does what God wants is set for eternity.

You can't love the world and God.
Lust wants... always... Love REMAINS. V.17 (lives/abides forever)
The world is fading away, but disciples remain forever.

Take a step from lust to love.
- Love and be loved.
- Remember
