(1) Thread: America, freedom, and thanksgiving

I've been observing the increasing tension within the USA as things come to head over the unconstitutional lockdown orders.

As a future American unable to join the fight yet, I have some thoughts about it.
(2) In New Zealand we have no "thanksgiving" holiday tradition. So I have come at it from a blank slate. Of all American holidays, Thanksgiving is my second favorite, obviously after July Fourth.

Also a fan of Memorial, Veterans, and President's Day.
(3) The first Thanksgiving occurred in the most uniquely American context and is imbued with meaning on every level.
(4) Learning the Thanksgiving story & seeing the annual celebration from afar helped me build thankfulness into my daily life.

Guess what? My life has gotten better. In quite miraculous ways. I learned that God does keep his promises & his sense of humor is extraordinary.
(5) It doesn't matter how bad your situation can get, there is ALWAYS something to be thankful for. If you are an American, there is even more, because you can point to so many times in history that your forebears gave their lives for your freedom.
(6) I know that a good number of you are just as willing to do that now, if the need arose. "Liberty or death" is not a mere slogan to those of you who have that commitment in your heart. My own willingness to formally make that deal continues to grow.
(7) In case anyone finds it weird for a foreigner to be talking like this, you have to know the way that many Americans by choice feel about America. Granted, many legal immigrants don't love the greatest country in world history like you & I do. But there are many more like me.
(8) So the point of this thread is to remind you that Americans not yet born or naturalized are among the main beneficiaries of the sacrifices being made. Just like you have been. Americans of every generation are called to fight to keep the Republic if necessary.
(9) It's easy to think of your own children, grandchildren, or other kinsmen when you decide what to do in a crisis. Science has demonstrated that humans tend to take greater risk to protect biological relatives than strangers. I'd add in non-biological close relatives, too.
(10) It's not a given that folk will think of the future Americans out there, who will one day politely ask if they can become a citizen or permanent resident. We are the beneficiaries of American sacrifice just as your own descendants will be. And I feel very humbled by this.
(11) Apart from cheerleading, I literally can't help in the fight. Hoping the US border reopens to NZ tourists within the next 90 days. If not, I'll top up my stores of patience a bit longer. A small price to pay, compared to those without a job, their health, or their life.
(12) Once I have moved to the US, my ability to help in the fight will depend on many things, such as the formal steps in the immigration process, and my personal training, fitness and access to resources. Just know that I will do everything I can at the time I can do it.
(13) Already chosen a state & it's under wraps for now. Mostly because it's fun to keep folk guessing, but also for practical reasons, as I have not yet filed my immigration application. It's a Southern, red state, & I couldn't be happier with my choice. Patience, grasshoppers.
(14) When able, I will be spending a lot of time at the range using someone else's guns and then eventually my own. I am not a good shot, lol. That has to change. I do know that after buying things like food, every able bodied American should set aside money for more guns & ammo.
(15) This is a thank you letter from the future, in gratitude for your willingness to do your duty to once again secure freedom for yourself, your family, and those who will come after you.

Happy Thanksgiving, for November.
