We need to talk about children and young people! I have had many conversations with parents, practitioners and charities about realities of living in #Covid19 Ireland. Our phased approach to #InThisTogether must include the third of the population who are under 25.
Short thread
. @MariaLCorbett highlights how Government Plan is adult-centered. She asked "What about disadvantaged & at-risk children? Where's the plan to engage them through #youthwork & small community-based summer camps btw now & schools re-opening in Sept?"

Indeed, @KODLyons in their Human Rights Blog series outline the observations by Dr Carol Coulter and ⁦@MariaLCorbett⁩ of ⁦@ChildLawProject⁩ on "Concerns for Vulnerable Children Arising from the Covid-19 Pandemic"

I was heartened to see @ChildRightsIRL highlight a meeting held with @BernardGloster @tusla to discuss the impact of #Covid19 with their sector. I have no doubt they had a robust discussion. I hope we soon see the results of this type of engagement.
Again and again, @GarNob highlights the realities been faced by children and young people. He highlights the increased risks and vulnerability for certain children due to #Covid19. Raising pertinent questions such as - how do know education continues?
The rights of children with disabilities continues to be highlighted by the chair of @InclusionIre @LorDempsey. Lorraine's tweet raises an issue I am seeing all too often - GDPR is being used to stop crucial interaction with children in too many settings.

Psychotherapist and children's expert @TheJoannaFortune has been highlighting the emotional needs of children and has been suggesting ways we can address them during the current times. As we rebuild society we need to include children.
Associate Professor @JaneSuit this morning tweeted "I don’t think we’ve been nearly focussed enough on our young people and the impacts on them". 👏👏

We know the importance of listening and involving children and youth people. Well done to @nycinews for their young voices event and as this tweet from @MarkKav21 highlights, it is crucial we include young people as we start to phase back...

If we are #InThisTogether we must include children and young people and not in terms of being minded, educated or a by-product of labour activation.

There are children & young people with significant needs who will need a targeted approach. And then more general measures.
To end on a positive, just a few of the amazing initiatives already happening - in youth work @IrishGirlGuides, youth arts @TheArkDublin, youth advocacy @SpunOut, creativity @sarahwebbishere

Each phase of Government plan must include children and young people. #InThisTogether
Sorry it is @TheJoannaFortun - so wish twitter had an easy correct.
