In 2003, the Bush Administration pushed for a war with Iraq to hide their failures in preventing 9/11.

Now, the Trump Administration is dead-set on starting a new Cold War with China to hide their failures in combating the pandemic.

I don't say any of this lightly. I came to age as the Iraq War raged. It was a defining moment of my life. But what we're watching now is a replay of that terrible, terrible moment.

It's the same, from ordering intelligence to find nonexistent evidence to the drums of war.
And what's truly maddening is that newspapers and cable networks all have seen the GOP strategy memos that lay out the plan to blame China for Republican failures to help in November.

Everyone knows this. And yet, it's not mentioned in coverage when they push these conspiracies.
A 57-page memo has been distributed to members of the GOP detailing a strategy to push conspiracy theories against China to help with the 2020 Election.

What Pompeo and Trump and others are doing is following this strategy to a T, but it could have dangerous consequences.
Anytime Trump or Pompeo or a Republican says they have "evidence" that the coronavirus came from a Chinese lab, coverage MUST address the GOP strategy memo for context.

This isn't reality. It's political maneuvering, and treating it like anything else is wildly irresponsible.
And make no mistake. The Trump Administration will find "evidence" of a Chinese conspiracy. They'll inflate manufactured intelligence or use a partisan group.

It's what's happened for years. It happened in both the First and Second Gulf War.

They'll find a way. Bet on it.
And meanwhile, Trump and the GOP blaming conspiracy theories for their failures will put Asian-Americans at risk and paint Democrats as dangerous traitors.

We'll see harassment, hate-crimes, and probably murder. None of this is harmless. None of this is okay.

People need to realize the tax money the government's sunk into the military-industrial complex was extortion and part of a protection racket.

The government is there for us. It's there to do our business, not to serve as an organ for wealth distribution to the already wealthy.
We have been taught, through our biased, propagandist history and by social learning, that the government is its own entity removed from us and that it's necessary because otherwise we would be eradicated.

We have to remember the government is only sovereign because we allow it.
For the federal government to just do nothing to help during a pandemic, to horde our money for its own purposes while we starve and die, is a complete abdication of its responsibility to do our business.

This is a major thing and spectacle politics and militarism facilitated it

Donald Trump is president to disable government as an obstacle to unimpeded corruption and profit.

He isn't a traditional president. He's an anti-president engaged in post-political managed democracy. He isn't there to help you.

The only thing Trump will do in response to the pandemic is pretend like he's doing anything at all.

Post-political authoritarians will never use government to help people besides themselves. The only thing they will do is provide a flimsy illusion of helping.
Over time, the post-political authoritarian's flimsy illusion of helping will just wear down the citizen's expectation that the government can be used in a productive manner.

None of this is hidden. This is what Trump is doing and you have to understand it.

Americans are victims of relentless corporate public relations strategies. Employers, universities, brands, governments, all of them wielding attorney-guided, focus group-tested rhetoric that sounds like it means everything while intentionally meaning nothing.
It’s this corporate ethos that has made modern life so unbearable. Every major body, whether a business or university or government, knows what it needs to SAY as a means to avoid DOING literally anything.

Trump’s “response” to the pandemic is this strategy personified.
It’s something to see literally every major institution in American life say all of the right things in terms of handling the pandemic while avoiding any responsibility or specific action necessary to actually handle it.

This is the America hypercapitalism has created.
