Something very important happened today, in Nigeria. @nigerianstat published results of a very important statistical exercise known as the Nigeria Living Standards Survey (NLSS) 2018-19.

The last time Nigeria carried out and published an NLSS was 2009-10; before then, 2003-04.
The NLSS is an important survey that measures the incidence of poverty, as a percentage of total population.

What did NLSS 2019-2020 find out?

40.1 percent of Nigeria’s total population were classified as poor, comprising 18% of Urban population and 52.1% of rural population.
One really interesting things about this latest NLSS (2019-2020) is the subnational breakdown: Poverty head count is highest in Sokoto, and lowest in Lagos.

4 of 5 States with lowest poverty numbers are from SW: Lagos, Osun, Ogun, Oyo.

(*Borno excluded from the Survey)
