Is any other country on earth seeing this kind of thing? People spittle-flecked-screaming, carrying heavy weapons and basically demanding the right to get infected and infect others & that poor people be marched back into unsafe workplaces to do manicures or make chicken nuggets?
There are many things worth marching and risking yourself to demand: fair wages, stopping wars, the right to unionize, or end child labor. But these people-as far as I can tell ONLY IN AMERICA-are trying to turn getting a manicure or eating deli meat into a civil rights movement.
And in some cases this "movement" involves threatening government workers with heavy weapons, as if to imply what? "Get me my haircut or I'll shoot??" Is that a position any sane person takes seriously? And aren't these "protests" threats to public health and safety?
I mean... when Black Lives Matter marches broke out in Fergusen or Baltimore over the police killings of black people, police responded with literal tanks! I had never even seen a tank in person before covering the Baltimore marches. And BLM sure as Hell wasn't carrying AR15s.
And yet these people are screaming, blasting spittle everywhere, and screaming in the faces of unmasked police officers on a regular basis, and police are acting as if this is FAR less threatening than the protests against what their own profession had done to unarmed people.
My in-laws and family members abroad think a lot of things about America are weird. But this right here? These LET US GET INFECTED WITH A DEADLY VIRUS AND INFECT YOU OR ELSE!! violence-tinged "protests," if we're still calling them that, have got to be the weirdest things of all.
If say, this was ebola that was on the loose in America, would these same people be marching around with their guns demanding to catch it and take it home, and that low-income workers risk catching it and wiping out their own families and the protesters themselves ... with ebola?
