New govt slide which shows that in most recent week for which we have data (wk end 24/04), deaths in care homes were still rising and amounted to half that of those in hospitals.
Chief Scientific Adviser to the MoD, Angela Maclean says that “there is a real issue we need to get to grips about what’s happening in care homes”

What’s happening is what’s been happening for weeks. The issues haven’t changed...:
(1) Huge pressure on homes to take Covid patients back from hospital (2) a testing regime which hasn’t been adequate and in many cases still isn’t (3) an often unsatisfactory PPE supply (4) too much reliance on agency staff transmitting to multiple homes (5) no sick pay.
These have been obvious *for weeks*. Question for PHE and ministers is why on each count more hasn’t been done/some issues only just recently started to be addressed or still not at all.
