Happy #NationalTeachersDay!

We’re so happy to have elected so many incredible teachers across the country — and we are so proud of everything that they’ve accomplished in the classroom and in office. Let’s celebrate them today and then let’s elect even more! /THREAD
Before becoming the first woman elected both governor and senator in U.S. history, Sen. @JeanneShaheen was a teacher. So she knows firsthand that high quality public education is essential for America’s children. Image
Before she made history as the first Black representative from Connecticut, Rep. @JahanaHayesCT was an award-winning history teacher!

From the classroom to Congress, she’s an incredible role model, leader, and advocate. Image
As a former teacher herself, Rep. @Ann_Kirkpatrick knows how important all of our hardworking teachers are.

That’s why she's fighting for them in Congress! Image
.@RitaHartIA’s experience as an educator helps her understand her district and her community.

We need her perspective in Congress. Image
.@candacefor24 is a former educator and school board member. Now, she’s running for Congress in Texas!

We need more representatives like Candace who value public education and who want to invest in schools all across the country. Image
.@JillSchupp, a former elementary school teacher and school board member, has always prioritized equal access to education. As a teacher and now as a Missouri state senator, Jill is a dedicated public servant.

Now we have to send her to Congress! Image
.@DelegateFowler knows that her experience in the classroom prepared her to lead on public education in Virginia. Like Kelly, many of our amazing candidates for state legislatures started out as teachers! Image
.@AnnissaForBos ran for office after 13 years of teaching because she saw the fundamental inequities that were affecting her students' success.

And she has remained a committed advocate for students during her five years as a Boston city councilor. Image
Are you a teacher who might want to run for office someday like Jahana, Jill, Candace, Rita, Ann, Kelly, or Annissa? Whether that be the local school board, state legislature, or Congress — we want to support you. Sign up today! #NationalTeachersDay

Today, the Texas Supreme Court issued a grotesque ruling that upholds one of the most extreme abortion bans in the nation. This decision will put millions of lives at risk + will force Texas women to flee the state for care or endure dangerous and potentially deadly pregnancies🧵
Make no mistake, Texas Republicans. We know that you’re using the courts to sidestep the will of the people. We also know that the majority of Americans are pro-choice and won’t stand for your extremist agenda.
EMILYs List is proud to stand with Texas Congressional candidates Michelle Vallejo and state Rep. Julie Johnson, and Texas state House candidates Mihaela Plesa, Averie Bishop, and Kristian Carranza. We know they can triumph over anti-choice extremism this November.

Get to know our new President, Jessica Mackler! 🧵
Jessica comes from a political family.
- Her grandfather was a union leader.
- Her parents volunteered on campaigns.
- Her grandmother was an EMILYs List member.
Fun fact: Jessica Mackler began her career at EMILYs List as an intern, and like many of the staff here, she learned that it’s through hard work and sheer grit that you make it happen — there’s a dedication to doing whatever it takes to level the playing field for women.

On the 51st anniversary of Roe v. Wade, it’s important to remember that nearly 2 years ago, an anti-choice U.S Supreme Court stole our right to reproductive freedom. Roe was more than a court case; it gave us power to make decisions about our bodies and futures #RememberingRoe🧵 Image
Since Roe was overturned, 21 states across the country have moved to ban or restrict abortion nationwide. And if that wasn't enough, extremists are going after birth control and restricting travel for abortion care. #RememberingRoe
Voters have not forgotten, and the pro-choice majority is making their voices heard nationwide. Since the Dobbs decision, we have seen voters come out in force to protect abortion rights and take a stand against extremists trying to strip us of our rights #RememberingRoe Image

One year ago, the Supreme Court succeeded in doing what Republicans have tried to do for nearly 50 years: overturning Roe v. Wade. They overturned a constitutional right for the first time in our nation’s history and jeopardized the rights and freedoms of millions of Americans.
Your rights now depend on where we live and who represents you. Over the past year, extremist Republicans across the country have further stripped away freedoms at the state level with near-total abortion bans and restrictions.
There is still hope: reelecting Democratic governors and flipping legislatures in Michigan and Minnesota have allowed those states to codify protections for abortion rights.

@KamalaHarris @Madam_President VP @KamalaHarris shattered the glass ceiling as the first woman, first Black, and first South Asian American vice president. She embodies what it means to be an EMILYs List groundbreaker!
