Here is a summary thread of today’s #COVID19AB public health update. Today we are reporting an additional 57 cases of #COVID19AB, bringing the total # of cases in Alberta to 5,893. Of these, 3,219 people have now recovered. (1/8)
Since my last update, we have confirmed 2 more deaths. This brings the total # of lives lost to 106. I extend my condolences to all who are affected by these deaths, as well as to anyone grieving the loss of a loved one from any cause. (2/8)
There are now 622 #COVID19AB outbreak cases in continuing care facilities across the province. These facilities remain a priority and we continue doing what we can to keep residents safe. (3/8)
AHS has retained AgeCare to oversee administration of Millrise Seniors Village in Calgary. There were concerns over staffing levels & how the facility managed outbreak protocols during an outbreak at the site. (4/8)
In collaboration with AgeCare, AHS will support the site’s day-to-day operations and continue to support staffing as the transition occurs over the coming days. We will monitor and evaluate the site’s staffing levels and work to ensure residents and staff are safe. (5/8)
In High River, there have now been 949 cases at the Cargill meatpacking plant. Of these, 810 have recovered. There have been 487 confirmed cases among workers at the JBS plant in Brooks, and 36 cases at the Harmony meatpacking plant. (6/8)
One third of the cases at Harmony were found because of the outbreak management tool of testing asymptomatic workers, which enables quicker case management and contact tracing. AHS is working closely with Harmony to limit spread. (7/8)
