So, we're dealing with a lot of disease potentially and a lot of deaths, with an economy that is hobbled and in which considerable investment will be needed to shorten supply chains.

Those are just givens.
Where's the money going to come from? It seems likely that the 2017 tax cut will be repealed. The GOP may not like it, but the alternatives are less palatable.
We're going to need to make some painful decisions. Should colleges really need 4 years, or is 3 enough?

Should undergrads have the summer off (maybe work, etc, to earn $$) or go to school to get through in 3 years?

Can we afford otherwise?
Should a graduate education really take 4+ (in some cases 5+) years? Can we really afford that now?

What about medical schools--is 4 years really needed, or will 3 do. Much of the 4th years isn't notably productive, and if you use the summers, 3 would be just fine.
There are a lot of issues to be discussed here. I haven't talked a bit about vocational or community colleges, and so on.

When are we as a society going to have that discussion?

We've lost a lot of wealth with this crisis. We need to make that up. Somehow.
Simply re-opening the economy isn't going to do it.

Remember, we're only 1 million clinical cases into the 100 million that we will see in the next 2-3 years, absent a vaccine (see my previous post).
