Ajero Morgan @ajeromorgan ,

No doubt your contribution is coming out of Ignorance & paranoia. Like your fellow brother @olushola_shola , the gray hair on your faces do not signify sense nor decorum. Let me educate you what you do not know. GEJ didn't start Almajiri schools.
There have existed several programmes, projects, policy & legal frameworks introduced by governments before @GEJonathan , NGOs or private individuals. However, brief brains like yours want to change history, of course to fellow dullards like them. I will give you some hint.
The Kaduna state governor's wife then, Hajiya Asmau Ahmed Makarfi developed an institution termed Millenium Hope Programme (MHP) in the year 2000. Where was Ebele then? The programme lasted for 6 years although it has successfully integrated thousands of Almajiri kids into the
'formal system of education'. The excellent programme met some challenges, including inadequate funding to sustain beyond the collaborative effort of UNICEF and the IIRO in the provision of medical care services, education materials for skills acquisition, lack of a proper
withdrawal control mechanism by some of the teachers of the Almajiri schs and so on. This effort made a great change & some of the beneficiaries were believed to have moved on from there.

You didn't see this from your WhatsApp group. Did you?
From 2003 to 2006, the Kano state govt, under the State Ministry of Education & Information Tech set up an Almajiri sch system. This was during the administration of Malam Ibrahim @shekarau60. This was the highest intervention in the history of Kano state meant for Almajiri.
Thousands of schools were integrated in Kano state under this scheme and a lot was achieved. The programme kicked off well with sensitization programmes, consultations with the "Alarammomi" & so on. This also met some challenges, including the inability to control the influx of
pupils from other states to the pilot LGAs of kano state where the pilot testing was ongoing. There was inadequate resources for innovative products & providing enough classes for these kids. Developing a uniform curricula and so on. Then no continuity after Shekarau left.
In the FCT, the National Commission for Mass Literacy & Adult Non-Formal Education (NMEC), under the @FMENigeria estimated that 40% of the then 7.3 million out of sch kids are Almajiris & picked up the challenge in 2003 to 2006, during President Obasanjo's regime.
This was the first time a comprehensive curriculum was produced by the @NigeriaGov in collaboration with @UNICEF to cater for these kids. Find this document & see the excellent job done in the 46 page document & stop embarrassing your old age with ignorance.
Like the others, this also came across some challenges, like inadequate funding for the production of training manuals, low sensitization & so on. Between 2006 to 2010, there was a National Plan on Orphans & Vulnerable Children (OVC) - another 74 page document. Go look for it.
Apart from these, there are several hundreds interventions by individuals & organizations, all working very hard towards eradicating the current abused system of Almajiri schools & bringing a change for the better. Ignorant people like you, however, learn from Sahara Reporters.
So the "they" you are referring to in your foolish post did not fight GEJ because he was neither the first to bring up such initiative, nor was he the initiator of the intervention programme. Read the UBE Act 2004 and the strategic plan for the implementation of Almajiri
Education programme from 2011 to 2019, and the operational guidelines. Again, there have been state and non-state players in setting up an inclusive Almajiri Education System since Ebele was in Otueke.
On Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, his ouster was because he rubbed feathers with the politicians. However, some of us did not take his constant talks about educating the Almajiri serious because there was no document we came across that suggested him as part of any such efforts.
I will recommend for your empty head a research report entitled: "A Research Report By Resource Center for Human Rights and Civic Education (CHRICED), Nigeria with Support from Anti-Slavery International (ASI), United Kingdom June 2019". You will learn a lot from there.
The prgramme launched by Ebele on the 10th of April 2012 at gagi, Sokoto state, registering 25 pupils in the new model boarding school was indeed a plausible effort, but not different from what other govts have been doing, & was an initiative of late Umaru Yaradua.
Experts suggest that what killed those schools (many of which the structures have been erected) was the symbolic corruption of the Goodluck Jonathan regime, because the programme was neither well planned nor well staged. It was a political game meant to score votes in the North.
Pundits also believe that if this regime of President @MBuhari has shown seriousness in tackling the Almajiri menace, it would have picked from the structurally deficient model set by the Ebele regime & make it better. But we all know, continuity is a problem in Nigerian politics.
With the renewed efforts of the Nigerian Govs Forum & other efforts of the @GovKaduna, of free primary sch education & feeding, Katsina states skilsl acquisition, Jigawa's Tsangaya sch models, Bauchi, Zamfara & kebbi's efforts, we are making a huge progress.
What we will suggest to these Govts is not to adopt a cheap, fast but unbalanced approach. banning the Almajiri is a welcome devt, but providing for them adequate schooling facilities like every other child is more important. We will continue to educate old oafs like you.
