New article up at NRO on how the press has been misleading their readers with out-of-context data on COVID-19:

Reporting on data related to the epidemic has increasingly led to conclusions that aren’t accurate.

Examples:

Outlets have recently attempted tying newly reported cases to re-opening measures days earlier despite them clearly not being related.

2) The NYT and Axios both published charts suggesting that the rate of new cases was increasing outside of New York and curve was not flattening. That data did not account for testing increases, which misled readers and other journalists.

These same outlets spent months complaining about insufficient testing capacity, but then use the data in a misleading way that essentially punishes states and the country for increasing our testing. News outlets need to provide proper context for data.

This isn't meant to pick on one particular person, but it demonstrates how questionable media coverage is skewing perceptions.

A lot of people (esp in media) started w presumption that Dem Governors were doing things right & R Governors were screwing up. Regardless of results.
Florida has done exceptionally well (thus far), especially given their elderly population. But DeSantis has been skewered in the press. Georgia has also done ~ok, but Kemp has been treated as biggest screwup in the country. Their personal numbers have taken a huge hit.
We can argue over whether the Governors are directly responsible for the outcomes but impossible to compare to the coverage/approvals of Cuomo in NY (where things are a disaster and can be at least partially tied to his decisions), and not conclude much of the coverage was wrong.

Trump says plenty of offensive stuff, but this isn't it. She asked an aggressive question trying to blame Trump for American deaths and he responded by telling her to ask the party he (correctly) views as actually responsible.
And the question gives the game away. One week the reporter asks why we are lagging behind other countries in testing, then a few weeks later they act outraged that we would compare our testing levels to other countries.

How does this transparent BS help inform the public?
This is the person who complained about us comparing our testing to other countries and treating it like a "global competition" while Americans are dying. Come on.

This is a lie. I’m getting very tired of watching major news organizations spread claims. Pompeo referenced evidence that it originated at a lab, not that it was man-made. These news organizations have been dishonestly conflating the 2 for months. There is no more exuse for it.
And the lie has a purpose. NIH is cutting the grant to the Wuhan Institute of Virology, where intel agencies increasingly think COVID-19 may have originated. 60 minutes paints that as a conspiracy to dismiss cutting the grant as irresponsible.

There is plenty of circumstantial evidence to support that belief, just no direct proof (which may now be impossible bc of China's coverup). If it did leak from there, should we continue to fund research there?

Maybe, but it's not unreasonable to say no or at least pause.
