Reeves just started his daily press conference by practically begging listeners to take COVID10 seriously. #covid19 #covid19ms #covidms
Scratch that, literally just begged.
Safer at home order will be extended by 2 weeks. No indoor gatherings of more than 10. No outdoor gatherings of more than 20. Stay home as often as possible.
People over 65 or with pre-existing conditions should stay home. Salons and gyms will reopen with strict regulations, "We are not doing this because there is no risk associated with you going there." Reeves
Will be interested to see what the restrictions are for salons and gyms.
Will you go to the gym or salon?
"I am begging you to practice personal responsibility." and at the same time also reopening businesses that put workers at high risk.
[Lots of platitudes.]
Dobbs: 404 cases, 13 deaths, 3 of those from previous death certificates.
Now over 9000 cases, and over 400 deaths.
Hospitalizations have decreased.
Ongoing community tranmission, long term care outbreaks
Will not see major declines because we're doing more testing.
Dobbs believes we are identifying more cases
435 hospitalizations
123 ICU patients
58 ventilation patients
Update from @MSEMA
It is National Hurricane Preparedness Week, in case you were wondering what new layer of insanity might be coming behind #MurderHornets
Waiting for Reeves to throw in his signature "Just because something is legal doesn't mean that it is wise."
Q: Why not continue restrictions in hot spot area?
A: Reeves - rememeber current Safer At Home order it in effect until 8 am on Monday. "I would say, stay tuned." which sounds like there may be something of that nature coming.
Q: Why not fully reopen now?
A: When we get to Monday morning at 8 am, 95% of industries will be open. We also have to be smart enough to know that some industries are higher risk than others.
Q: When will the information for gyms/salons be available?
A: Will be on the SOS website, go out through social media, and be made available to press to push out.
Side note: all of the EOs are eventually placed here on the Governor's website: governorreeves.ms.gov/covid-19/#exec…
Link to the EOs on the Secretary of State's website: sos.ms.gov/Education-Publ…
Q to Dobbs: what will cause infections to decline as we are opening things up?
A: Controlling outbreaks. If we didn't have these we'd see a remarkable decline. Depending on the community and well-thought out opening. Robust testing will keep case numbers high until they go down.
Dobbs: Detecting asymptomatic cases in places like nursing homes is raising the numbers.
Q: Salons/gyms, regulations look strict. Who will enforce?
A: State law enforcement available, but local jurisdictions do and have done a good job of monitoring entities. #1 person that is going to enforce this is the person opening the business, employees, Mississippians.
"I'm convinced the industries we are reopening will do a better job of monitoring themselves than any govenment entity ever will." Reeves
Dobbs "More and more labs have opened up as small businesses and they have not been reporting to us electronically."
Dobbs: State health lab has had massive decline in hospital testing.
Reeves: MSDH is spending a lot of time and resources on LTC facilities right now due to the risk. Widespread testing in facilities.
And done.
