More reporting on planned re-arming of the 712 rgt in Kansk (Krasnoyarsk region) with MiG-31K. Numerous mentions of "Kh-47M2" fictional designator do not add to credibility, but anyway:
- special program of pilot re-training to start by the end of 2021
- re-arming by 2024

- MiG-31 mentioned as 'first stage' for Kinzhal, that allows to "start the attack" from 12-15 km altitude
- Missile flies most of its path at the stratosphere border
- sophisticated terminal maneuvering to penetrated defenses and increase accuracy

- MiG-31K has new equipment, increased fuel load and comms equipment to receive targeting data
- 2000+ km range, 'guaranteed' defeat of both fixed and mobile targets

Probably some people are wondering what do I think about the most recent #hyperhype a la Russe, I mean TASS source claiming test of some hypersonic missile from Tu-22M3 long-range bomber for its future modenized Tu-22M3M version. (tass.com/defense/1154995). Let's make a thread!

I am lazy and won't add links, but feel free to ask for those, as I may be in more helping mood some other day.
So, first idea (incl. by some idiots in RU media) - rumors about Kinzhal mated w/ Backfire are true! Well, it is the easiest thought, but...very improbable.

MiG-31 is one of its kind. It can fly fast and high, and launch huge missiles. Still, the "-K", which is part of "Kinzhal" system most likely suffered a lot in terms of performance. Taking off, flying, launching or landing with a thing this big is a challenge in itself.

"March 1st Weapons" (Sarmat, Avangard, Kinzhal, Peresvet, Poseidon, Burevestnik) turn two today. Re-upping my thread and slides done for @IFSHHamburg last year. Hope to complete and publish a proper research paper soon!
@IFSHHamburg Few data-points on each of the March 1st beasts.

1) Sarmat ICBM - ejection tests and ground engine burns reportedly succesful, flight tests this year with deployment to begin in 2021, Uzhur. Scope of deployment and payload types might be related to the New START extension.
2) Avangard missile system with HGV deployed (one rgt with two silos in Dombarovsky), being put into New START, although no comments/leaks from the US side yet. Might be tricky. Eventually this HGV or its descendants would be mated to Sarmat.

Shoigu declared today a workday, so that 31st will be a day-off...so we have a fresh Krasnaya Zvezda. With an epic interview with deputy minister Krivoruchko: redstar.ru/fundament-obor…

It is getting more and more complicated to calculate SRF re-armament this year:)

2 "sets of equipment for silo-based launchers" delivered to Kozelsk (28 GMD)
Avangard serial production and re-armament of Dombarovsky "soyedineniye" started (may hint that 13 GMD will be fully "Avangarded"?..)

New 3-year contract for 3 regimental road-mobile Yars sets...and Sirena-M road-mobile command missile/ballistic retranslator to be delivered in 2025
Complete ground stage of Sarmat development and start flight tests
2022: 92% of modern equipment in the SRF
