Loss of smell is observed in patients with #COVID19, the recent pandemic that has spread to almost every country on Earth. However, existing reports have downplayed or failed to distinguish the potential effect on taste and other oral sensations. #ThisisMyScience (2/5)
We, @GCChemosensoryR, design a multi-lingual, international questionnaire to assess self-reported changes in the perception of smell, taste, and oral sensations and related symptoms in patients with a COVID-19 diagnosis. #ThisisMyScience (3/5)
From the first 4000 patients, we found a reduction of smell, taste, and other oral sensations during COVID-19. We also showed that nasal obstruction DID NOT account for smell loss, suggesting the SARS-CoV-2 infection may disrupt sensory-neural mechanisms. #ThisisMyScience (4/5)
