In her broadcast to Scotland, don’t think anyone could accuse @NicolaSturgeon of not being clear what her message is...
Sturgeon: “Our progress is still fragile. If we ease off too soon, that could mean the virus runs out of control again.”
Sturgeon: “There will of course be risks whenever we ease the lockdown. But my judgment right now is that that risk is still too great.”
“The situation in our care homes...remains a serious concern.”
Sturgeon saying that Scottish govt has changed the rules to allow exercise more than once a day but save for that is “asking public to stick with lockdown for a bit longer, to consolidate the gains”
Sturgeon says Scottish govt advice remains unchanged and urges Scots not to meet up with anyone outside their household.
Sturgeon makes implicit comparison with D St. Says that Scottish govt is making preparations for easing of lockdown “and we’re doing that carefully because it’s vital when we do ask people to return to work and school that you have clarity about what we’re asking you to do.”
Still, shouldn’t forget that differences are emerging now, not earlier. Scottish govt didn’t demur on lockdown timing. Situation in Scottish care homes is dire, as in England. For parts of this story at least, Johnson and Sturgeon will be judged as one.
