Surah Al-Qasas

It means stories.

It is also named as such because in verse 25 Musa AS told his future father in law his stories.

#YQGems
The story of Musa can be viewers from a moral standpoint in this surah.

V.5 We desired to favour those who were oppressed in the land and to make those who were humiliated, We wanted to make them leaders and inheritors and to establish them with power in the land.

#YQGems
A message for all of us: you will never attain victory without a struggle and sacrifice.

It was a message at the time for the Muslims who were making the migration to Madinah from Makkah.

#YQGems
To have your ranks raised , you have to be purified by battles with those around you.
Leaders are born in that struggle. That is where true courage and faith are demonstrated.
And it is those people who deserve the reward in this world before the reward of the hereafter #YQGems
When the mother of Musa AS left him in the water in the basket, her heart becomes completely empty.

The love of a mother. SubhanAllah #YQGems
When you are feeling depressed and sad and empty, you have to turn to Allah. Nothing will give you that calmness that Allah can.

The verse says “We had to calm her down” else she would have never been calm. #YQGems
After making the mistake of killing the Egyptian. He immediately realized he had made a mistake and repented to Allah SWT. And Allah forgave him.

Lesson:
When you recognize the sin , repent to Allah. A sign of a perfect repentance is that you repent immediately #YQGems
Another part of the repentance is to renew your intent to be a better person. You make a commitment to Allah.

Oh Allah because you have honoured me, I will never be a supporter of criminals and tyrants. #YQGems
When you turn to Allah SWT, Allah helps you from places you never expect.

V. 20 A man came running from the farthest part of the city, O Musa, get out of here. The authorities are going to kill you. I am sincere.

#YQGems
When Allah azzawajal is on your side, He will create armies from nowhere, He will find helpers that you least expected.

This is the beauty of turning to Allah SWT. When Allah is on your side, who cares who is on the other side. You are going to be the winner. #YQGems
Musa flees to the Sinai peninsula and sees the strange sight of shepherds jostling each other. And he sees two ladies who are poor and they cannot hire a person and their father is sick. As a refugee, Musa with nothing to give, gives the sweat of his brow. #YQGems
Then he makes a beautiful dua’a

We are accepting to anything you give us ya Allah. #YQGems
When you give unto others, Allah will give unto you manifold.

Generosity is a state of mind. It is not about how much money you give.

#YQGems
One of the ladies came back afterwards, walking with shyness (Allah praised her for her modesty and hayya).
It is not sinful to be attracted to someone. It is what you do with those feelings (whether you act in a halal fashion or not) that is where there is a difference. #YQGems
There is a central theme of the importance of women in this part of the surah, Musa’s mother, his sister, the woman who eventually becomes his wife.

Gender should never come between you and helping the religion of Allah SWT.

#YQGems
After Musa gave of himself, Allah gave back: he got a job, then a career, for ten years a roof over his head, food to eat, money to earn, he was even gifted a wife.

#YQGems
Then the story continues of how Musa went back to the pharaoh. And Hamman is mentioned. He was one of the evil visirs of the pharaoh. He is told by the pharaoh to go build a palace from which I can see this God, I think Musa is lying. #YQGems
Allah mentions they were arrogant.

V. 39. We took him and his armies and we drowned them in the sea.

After all the build up of the power of Firaun, in two sentences Allah’s power is shown.

#YQGems
The surah moves on to the blessing of creation.

V.71 onwards
If Allah had made the night perpetually over you until the day of judgement, which God besides Allah, could give you the light?

#YQGems
And conversely

If Allah had made the day perpetually over you until the day of judgement, which God besides Allah, could give you the night to rest?

#YQGems
V.73 It is of His mercy that he has gifted you the night (to rest) and the day (to seek His bounty). So that you may give thanks.

#YQGems
We should all be appreciative of the blessings we do not even consider to be blessings.

#YQGems
Conclusion with story of Qarun (who was one of the richest men in all of human history). The keys to his treasure were so heavy, the young men would carry them with difficulty.

#YQGems
When he was told he should be grateful to Allah, he said I have been given this wealth because of MY expertise. I knew how to invest. I knew what to do. I was smart. I worked hard. He took credit for everything.

#YQGems
Millionaires and billionaires purchase people’s respect with their money. How superficial.

#YQGems
When Qarun walked outside with his entourage, the people salivated and wished they could be like him.

But the people of knowledge said, woe to you, are you so deluded by these riches? Is this what you want? The rewards of Allah will last forever.

#YQGems
We should be wise and invest in the hereafter. The ever lasting happiness.

#YQGems
The importance of knowledge is emphasized here.

When we study, and connect ourselves to the Quran and sunnah, it reorients our paradigm and we think on a different plateau.

Connect yourself, dear Muslims with the people of knowledge.
#YQGems
This last verse was revealed most likely during the Hijrah when prophet SAWS was on his way from Makkah to Madinah.

V.85 The one who ordained the Quran to you, of a certainty, He will bring you back to your home.
