Assuming 80% of people ultimately catch it over time, that means that the current death toll of 40,000 could rise to between 320,000 and 800,000 before 80% of the population ends up infected.

Of course, you can tweak the trade-off between lives and the economy (which is clearly what the Tories are trying to do) but it is impossible to BOTH keep the death toll low AND keep the economy anywhere near healthyish.
