Anecdote, not data: spoke to Polish friend yesterday who expressed absolute skepticism of Covid-19 data coming out of Poland, believes PiS is suppressing it for electoral reasons.
My hunch: a properly-conducted poll of, say, 2,000 would find that his views are "extremely common."
My further hunch: a properly-conducted poll in pretty much any country would find the same thing. Conspiracy-mindedness and mistrust of government now pandemic in its own right.
Further hunch: There's not a single country of which we might say, "The pandemic has really helped to consolidate its democracy."
Nor a country of which we might say, "The pandemic has really helped to legitimate its form of governance."
Can anyone think of a counter-example? Oh! New Zealand, I guess. Except for New Zealand.
