Surah Sad

The only surah in the Quran starting with the letter ص

Very similar in content with Surah As-Saffat but the style is different.

And there is a continuation of the prophetic stories but different prophets from those mentioned in the previous surah.

Begins by describing the haughtiness and arrogance of the pagans because they did not believe in Allah SWT and the message of the prophet SAWS.

They called him SAWS a lying magician.

Let us not follow the Quraish and create false gods amongst our own modern understanding of ethics and politics.

The truth transcends any one culture, and time, and place.

Prophetic stories:

Nūh, the people’s of Ad and Thamūd, Firaun are all mentioned in this surah.

Dawud AS and Suleiman AS is also mentioned.

2 men jumped into Dawud AS garden and he was worried because they weren’t supposed to be there. They said do not worry, we are having a dispute and want your advice.

There is an opinion that they were actually two angels and they were there to test him as a judge.

One of the two ‘men’ had a sorry story and convinced Dawud AS to side with him. Then the two men disappeared and Dawud AS understood this was a test he did not necessarily pass. Because he was too hasty to listen to one side and not the other before making a decision. #YQGems

And Allah is telling him, We made you a ruler and you must be fair and justice is not based upon your sympathies and desires.

Allah says you should not have been hasty in this regard. And Dawud fell down into sajdah in thankfulness to Allah and asking for his forgiveness.

This is one of the places of sajdah in the Quran.

The concept of listening to both sides is Islamic. You do not pronounce a judgment without hearing both sides.

Story of Suleiman AS

He was looking at all the wealth that Allah had given to him and realized he was not worshiping Allah the way he should. He turned back to Allah and asked for forgiveness.

Lesson: Power and wealth should not distract us from our religious duties.

Suleiman AS also made dua’a to Allah: grant me a dominion that no other person shall have after me.

Out of all creation of Allah SWT, only Suleiman was given control of the jinn and other privileges.

Without the dua’a of Allah nothing is possible

Story of Ayoub AS. He made dua’a to Allah SWT and a River began to flow right where he stood and he dipped in that river and he was cured of his leprosy and all of the wounds he had.

Ayoub AS was worried about fulfilling a vow he made against his wife when he was angry. Allah was merciful and allowed him to fulfill it in a way that was not harmful to her.

The lesson of fulfilling one’s vows is shown here. #YQGems

The people of Jahannam are also mentioned. The followers and the leaders are cursing each other. #YQGems

Conclusion of surah: the story of Adam and Iblis (the only surah that concludes with this story).

Allah honoured Adam by creating him with His own hands and asks Iblis why did you not bow down.

This story is a reminder, you will see how true this was.
