Surah Ya-Sīn

Primary theme is to prove the hereafter and that Allah SWT is the one Who will bring back our souls and resurrect us.

Prophet Muhammad SAWS called it the qalb (heart) of the Quran (not a clear narration).

Prophet SAWS instructed/encouraged us to recite Surah Ya-Sīn over those who are on their last throws of life (about to pass away). It eases them on their death beds. It comforts them.

Surah starts talking about the impact that the Quran has on people. Those who reject it, there is a barrier placed on them.

Our prophet SAWS when he was surrounded on the night of the Hijrah on his way to Madinah. He exited his house, surrounded by 40/50 people wanting to kill him, and as he did he recited Surah Ya-Sīn and the people were blinded. He was able to walk right under their midst

Then Allah says “We will bring back their dead. We will bring back their footsteps. We will transcribe everything they have done.”

When the Bani Salama wanted to sell their houses and everything just to live closer to the prophet SAWS (bc they lived far away).

The prophet SAWS said, Bani Salama stay in your houses because your footsteps are being recorded by Allah SWT.

No matter how small a thing we do for the sake of Allah SWT, it will be recorded and you will be rewarded for it.

The surah then moves on to the story of the 3 men (messengers sent by prophet ISA AS) who were sent to a town. They were preaching to people who did not believe in Allah. They were mocked and were about to be killed.

But a man came rushing from the furthest part of the town and he said you should follow these people. They then turned their anger on him. Their own townsperson. They asked him, have you embraced this religion?

And he responds, why shouldn’t I believe in the One who created me? You shall all be going back to Him. If He were to wish me harm, these false gods could not protect me.

Then the surah says “enter into Jannah”. The implication being that the people killed him. 💔

They killed him in this world (beat him to death). But he dies a shaheed so he enters into Jannah. And when he sees Jannah, he says how I wish my people could see this. How I wish they could know that my Lord has forgiven me and honoured me.

This man truly cared about his people. They murdered him and his heart was still full of compassion. #YQGems

If you want to be a preacher or a caller to Islam, and to walk in the footsteps of the prophets of Allah, then you MUST have a genuine compassion, a genuine love for the people you want to guide.

You cannot guide people if you have arrogance and hatred in your heart towards them.

The angels and the creation express their frustration/pity at man. No messenger comes to them but they ridicule him. Don’t they understand? Why are they so stubborn about accepting the truth and submitting to Allah SWT.

Allah then mentions 3 signs that shows He is the Rabb and that He is capable of bringing the dead back to life.

1. A sign for them is in the dead land. We giveth life, we produce grains, corn, fruits and crops so they can eat from it. Won’t they be appreciative?

2. The night, we strip it away from the day. And the sun runs towards its destination. Such is the power and design of the One who is All-powerful and Almighty.

And the moon we have disposed of it in various phases. Every night the moon has a special manzil 🌑🌘🌗🌖🌕🌒🌓🌔🌙. I am the One who has put the moon in these phases.

Neither can the sun overtake the moon nor the night the day. Every one is in its place in harmonious orbit.

3. We have been given power over the creation e.g., we can ride the waves in the oceans.

Allah then says, no sign/miracle comes to them but that they turn their backs away.

And when they are reminded by the people to give alms, the rejectors say to the believers, why should we feed the poor? Let Allah feed the poor.

There is a difference in the mindset of the believer.

When he sees a poor person he wants Allah to use him to do good. I want to be servicing the creation with the blessings Allah has bestowed on me. I want to be an instrument in spreading Allah’s mercy.

In contrast, the rejectors of Allah becomes sarcastic, haughty and arrogant.

Who should I do that? Your God is so powerful He can do it himself.

What a difference between religiosity and kufr.

When you see something negative, as a Muslim, think of what I can do to make the situation better. A believer should always try to be of benefit whenever they go.

V.52 talks about the trumpet being blown and the people waking up from their graves.

The disbelievers will be confused and the believers will say, this is the promise of Allah. Look at how it is true.

V.55 onwards talks about the people of Jannah and Jahannam.

The inhabitants of Jannah, on that day, shall be busy in entertainment. There will be so much to do in Jannah, you will be busy entertaining upsides yourselves. You are spoiled for pleasures.

The inhabitants of Jannah will be in shade on couches, they will have whatever fruits they want, and will be given anything they desire.

The highest of all pleasures of Jannah: they shall hear Allah say Salaam to them, and seeing the face of Allah. SubhanAllah.

May Allah grant us this reward. Aameen. 🤲🏽

The disbelievers are so blind to their own existence not seeing that, this in itself, is the greatest sign, the biggest miracle.
