this is a good thread, but also, journalism is hard work & for most people the pay is *shit*. $60k if you're very very lucky after years of working... freelancers scraping by on $20k, $30k.
a lot of journalists come from privileged backgrounds... but that's different than the actual *jobs* paying well, which, well, most of them don't. a very lucky few get more. but very little in this realm is stratospheric. and it's hard work & tons of scrutiny all the time.
it's not manual labor, no, but in that sense it's no more "privileged" than being like, an actuary or something.
or literally any office job.
