Seeing lots of misinformation regarding what happens to Warren’s Senate seat if she is selected for VP. The seat is SAFE! Here’s a thread why:

In MA, the Governor appoints someone to temporarily fill a vacant Senate seat until a special election is held within 145-160 days.

HOWEVER: The Dem SUPER-MAJORITY can change the rules at any time to ensure this temp senator is a Dem.

⏰ In regards to timing:

Senator Warren could resign her seat at any point between Election Day and Inauguration, which “would determine if a special election triggered by that chain of events would happen in April or in June of 2021.”

The only other deadline is a rules change by the Massachusetts Senate by July 31 to extend the session & put the appointment law change on its docket.

The MA Senate/House have already planned to extend the session due to #COVID19

📖Fact: MA dems have done this before:
