SC further observed, “India's freedom of press stays as long as journalists can speak truth to power”. The Apex Court clearly stated, “Journalistic freedom centripetal to press freedom”
SC added ‘Article 32 of the Constitution protects fundamental right of citizens. Petitioner is a media journalist and journalists have a fundamental right to speak truth to power.’
The Mumbai Police was prayer to “insulate the investigating agency from any pressure, threat or coercion from the Petitioner and to enable the Investigating Agency to carry out it's lawful obligations in as fair and transparent manner.”has been dismissed by SC
The apex court today held “Duty of court to protect right to Freedom of expression” and said, “Free citizens can't exist if news media can't speak.” And quashed two hundred plus FIRs against Arnab, except the one being currently probed
Saying “protection against coercive steps extended for three weeks” the court did not quash the FIRs against Goswami, but allowed him to pursue appropriate remedy before a competent court”
A clear slap on Congress attempt to brow beat the Republic TV. The Republic TV adds one more case case against the Congress which has since 1960 forced dozens of media to seek remedy against its highhandedness. No non Congress govt has forced media to seek protection from SC
