The Edenville and Sanford dams have breached, @GovWhitmer confirms.

"Please get somewhere safe now," Whitmer says.

Thousands of people still need to evacuate, she says, including in Tittabawassee Twp, Thomas Twp, Saginaw Twp, Midland and Sanford.
Downtown Midland could be under approximately nine feet of water in the next 12 to 15 hours, @GovWhitmer says, after multiple dams failed in the area.
"To go through this in the midst of a global pandemic is almost unthinkable," @GovWhitmer says.

She asks everyone going to shelters to wear their masks and maintain social distancing as best they can. #COVID19
"This is unlike anything we've ever seen before," @GovWhitmer says of dam failures in Midland County. "I feel live I've said that a lot over the last number of weeks, but this is truly a historic event that is playing out in the midst of another historic event." #COVID19
It may be 12 to 15 hours before we know the full extent of flooding caused by dam failures in Midland County, @GovWhitmer says, so people in affected areas should evacuate before going to bed.
The shelter at Meridian Junior High School was closed due to higher flood waters after the Edenville Dam failed.

The shelter at Coleman High School lost power and was moved to the West Midland Family Center at 4011 W. Isabella St.

Regarding concerns about Dow Chemical, which is in Midland: They posted this on Facebook.

"Dow's Michigan Operations has activated their emergency operations center and will be adjusting operations as a result of current flood stage conditions."

Another update: Dow Chemical "is implementing its flood preparedness plan which includes the safe shutdown of operating units on site. Only essential Dow staff needed to monitor the situation and manage any issues as a result of the flooding remain on site."
More shelters are now available to evacuate floods:
