1) Was chatting with a doctor today - one who has had considerable experience in both UK and India. Her opinion was that nurses have the right to refuse to do certain tasks if they think it endangers them or their patients. So, without PPEs, they have the reject hazardous tasks.
2) But, they have no right to abandon their job and other patients and flee, leaving everyone in the lurch. That, according to her, is a violation of professional ethics. There is no code that allows them to flee without doing their duty to other patients who depend on them.
3) If they refuse to perform certain tasks, they have to submit their refusal in writing why they are doing so. From what I have seen, what these Manipuri nurses have done is a violation of their professional ethics. I am rather surprised that no one had pointed out this.
