Wow! That Grassroots Discussion was so full of real practical start-using-it-now #2020election organizing. Check out the recap below.
Thank you @kn_avery! You are brilliant! And thanks for your work with PFA and on the frontlines with Organizing Together #WOT2020 @WIOrgTogether
We started with a clip from the super helpful Turnout 2020 @BrennanCenter webinar. We listened to @evettewashere give a great rundown of the @knightfdn study of America's non-voters.

Non-voters:
- 38% do not believe their vote matters.
- Are less infromed, overwhelmed or turned off by negative news.
- Do not know the voting process.
- Less trusting of voting system.

What part of the @knightfdn study on non-voters stood out to you?

Talk to the non-voters you know. Show them the voting system and listen to their concerns. Use positive messaging. And be persistent. Do not give up on anyone. Follow up and engage with them overtime. Build the trust and faith.
How do we replicate community engagement online?
@kn_avery has great advice- Find FB pages in your community and DM members/admins. Look up professors at local colleges. Similar to friends being less likely to say yes in group chat. Take social media 1:1 for effective engagement.
Your #digital platforms should be personal. Use first person. Let people get to know you. Personalize the content when you share a link. And DM people in your network with individual messaging.
Keep in mind that #digital is getting saturated right now. The 1:1 personal touch will breakthrough. Oldschool Letters to the Editor really works. People trust their local news and it shows that the movement is alive in their town. #LocalNewsMatters
And @AndiDealsPoker showed how effective wellness check phone banks are right now. People answer and want to talk. Leave them with a positive feeling for the candidate. Suggest and keep suggesting that your local candidate do these calls for their campaign. #WinTheEra
And @kn_avery makes a great point- #VoteByMail should be synonymous with voting. Put the idea in people's heads. Have vote-by-mail signs and sidewalk chalk. Get voters thinking about new way to vote. #VoteByMail2020
Finally, @kn_avery's sage advice- Do not let your Democratic friends NOT volunteer. Even strong Democratic voters find it hard to get past not taking action. Ask a friend to reach out to a specific non-voter in their circle will get them started, and follow up with them.
And really drive home to people you know who do not want to vote for Biden what they really are voting for.

Next Thurs 6pm ET we will walk through encountering tension when talking politics and practicing a welcoming first reaction and effective communication. Join us!
