I speak only to my own experience, but while I can be insensitive due to having poor instincts or not being able to read the room, if/when it’s pointed out to me that what I’m doing is inappropriate or hurtful? I am MORTIFIED
Also, I’m happy to be corrected here, but I haven’t seen even ONE post with a boyfriend handwaving away his girlfriend’s abusive or cruel behaviour because she’s “on the spectrum”, it’s almost like we hold women to a higher behavioural standard??? Huge if true

In my experience, “on the spectrum” is intoned with the same sotto voce cadence and raised eyebrows as other euphemisms like “confirmed bachelor” and “lady of easy virtue”
