This tweet has been pinned since 2016, but #SaturdaySchool has been happening here on Twitter for a decade. Today, the weekly #SoJustHashtags team says thank you, it's been a good run, and now we hand it over to you, to do with it what you will, and we do hope you will.
I will continue to tag the stories I share with the #SoJustHashtags - I invite you to do the same - add #SoJust to the front of the topic and u can continue to add items to each of the different #SaturdaySchool hashtags - they are all there, waiting for u to use, learn, share
When I started #SaturdaySchool (a very long time ago), there weren't very many academics tweeting about these kinds of topics - and we had a lot to talk about. Twitter has changed tho, and there are MANY people who use social media to educate, learn, share, discern.
The #SaturdaySchool #SoJustHashtags have amazing resources posted here and on Pinterest - you can find so much information to learn or share on your own, any week, any time - just like always.
After years of researching different social justice and sociological topics, week after week, sharing and discussing with you here, I realized I could no longer be satisfied with slightly altering how I did things, teaching, trying a little at a time. #SaturdaySchool
All these years of learning, sharing, activism, trying ... they all led me to a point of realizing that I don't want to live "normal" or anything close to it. I want to live a life of changes at the root level, a different system, something out of the grind, a major change.
And wow did I make changes. I left the city, the hi rise, and I started on a different path for me and mine. I'm not "off grid" *yet*- I work online, but I am moving toward a life that's not as dependent as complicit in the systems I no longer want to give my strength to.
My social media accounts will be, and have been, shifting toward the things that are filling my days. Planting, growing, building, making medicine at home, living a life of buying very little. This is my focus now, and I hope you will follow that journey too.
It was not an easy decision to choose to let #SaturdaySchool go on without me - I mean, geez, it's been the longest commitment of my life other than to my children. I have hosted these resource 'teach-ins' thru all kinds of occasions and events, locations, devices - what a ride!
#SaturdaySchool never only happened on Saturdays - and it was never just on Twitter, it's always had a postmodern message in a bottle kind of chaos to it, with hashtags preserving info in one place ... it's never been a normal twitter chat - it can go on in any form too.
I've got so many people to thank ... there is no way I can mention them all, but I want to be sure that I let you know - it was never just me, I've always had support, some that came and went, some steady. Beautiful friendships, wow.
Thank you SO MUCH to @CobaltTiNor who started as a lurker, then asked a few questions, became a weekly #SaturdaySchool student, then he became part of the team, working behind the scenes, sharing info, scheduling, coordinating with hosts, so much!
And @raindawgtao ... how can I even thank you? Years and years you, like @CobaltTiNor, have worked on this team, researching, vetting resources, discussing topics, writing about them -- you have been a personal and academic support to me in so many ways -- THANK YOU!
My children @KissindreGrace @kellynkimbrell and @MightyMouseOp - they have shared me with you almost all of their lives, my son was tiny when we started, he's a grown man now ... that's how long we've done this, and they have been a big part of #SaturdaySchool #SoJustHashtags
My children have suggested #SoJustHashtags topics, played devil's advocate, inspired strategies, checked my confirmation bias, they have been a huge part of this #SaturdaySchool concept, and we've discussed the topics over the years many times
The #SoJust prefix came directly from @kellynkimbrell who coined the first of the #SoJustHashtags which is #SoJustWords - we've used it ever since, and I will continue to use this prefix in the future, saving items at the hashtags just like always.
I've grown and learned so much during this decade of #SaturdaySchool as Twitter came of age. I had to learn to answer questions with receipts in less that 140 characters - and that was a VERY important practice for me. I learned to ask more questions too.
Continue to explore and share from the #SoJustHashtags - please comment here if any of them are/were particularly important for you or your life, or if you learned a lot from one of them in particular. We've had so many topics over the years! #SaturdaySchool
Here is my Pinterest board where I hoard my resources from #SaturdaySchool and the #SoJustHashtags - it's really quite a collection ... pinterest.com/profragsdale/
