Correct. McCabe opened a criminal investigation into Sessions about him speaking with Kislyak because of a letter that Franken and Leahy sent to FBI not even 2 months after Sessions was confirmed. This was after his confirmation hearing where Dems asked him about Russians.

I also think if he didn’t recuse, the Democrat and media drumbeat and attacks against Trump would have been through the roof. Same as if Flynn had stayed in. Keep in mind, the coup plotters were still in their positions at the time.
