Since this Cynthia Morgan issue is entering my mentions when all I am trying to do is celebrate my birthday and sell my freaking book... I'm going to weigh in based on the tweets I have been seeing in line with the context of my book 🙃🙂

There is a lot of danger in coming to conclusions on matters you know nothing about. Fair is relative. Educate yourself. It is easy to be in your feelings about what seems right or wrong without understanding the terms and breakdown in trust

What is important is to understand how things got to the point where it did and why. Why do they own her Government name? What were the discussions they had before reaching that agreement? Who defaulted? Why? Did they try to resolve?

I have seen talents say the world of the people who sign them when they have nothing and change on them when they start getting attention. When money dries up and no one is calling for shows, they suddenly remember they are owed royalties.

I have also seen labels that promise heaven on earth with any intention or even hope of delivering. Someone told me once that if the artist doesn't blow, then they can't blame us cos we want returns first. It's crazy. People are evil

The court of twitter will not return a person's hard earned investment... And for some people who have been wronged, the only thing they have to get any form of compensation is their contract.

She said she didn't read her contract. Is there a possibility that if she knew that some of her actions would cos her grief, she wouldn't do them? I doubt she would. @joytongo is clearly hurt and trust me... I saw her work. Cynthia was EVERYTHING she did.

Are there things the label may not have done for her? Possibly but there are ways to resolve those issues and the law actually provides an opportunity for a review of contract terms that may be considered excessive in a contract

Contract is only as fair as the agreement reached at the point both parties are in terms of leverage... Most times a new act has little or none. As you grow, you get the chance to make your case and renegotiate terms to ensure its fair for where you are now #JourneyOfALearner

It's easy to paint a bad picture of people because of public sympathy. But you do not what it cost people to get you where you are? Most times it's starts as friendship and when trust starts getting lost, all one can fall back on is the business. #JourneyOfALearner

If as friends we are not agreeing on terms that are fair, when things get in the way, chaos is inevitable. This is what is happening. Someone hurt the other person and trust was broken and for years the matter has been left unattended. #JourneyOfALearner

Dear artist, we know most of you won't learn but here are tips. When you sign a contract... especially when you don't "have anything" and are hustling. Ask only for what you NEED and do the most with it. #JourneyOfALearner

I know you want to flaunt that you have a new deal and that you are doing well... But you are not. The sign on fee is a debt. Don't sleep on a bike. Production, marketing and distribution. Keep the debt on your head as low as possible. #JourneyOfALearner

If you are lucky and your first project becomes a hit, you buy more time even if the deal is 5 years. The investor wants return and if you give it early, you can discuss a better deal. It take time to get the deal you prefer #JourneyOfALearner

When you think a lawyer is expensive... Think about all the possibilities and how you can loose everything you worked for 5 years later. You will be shocked at how affordable a lawyer is #JourneyOfALearner

We all know saying you didn't read the contract is now a silly thing to say so let's stop saying it. Read your contract and ask questions and then get another opinion. Which brings me to the next thing #JourneyOfALearner

When you decide you want to do music eg in school... Start building relationships and friendships with potential "partners" eg lawyer, accountant, the party promoter, the business student. You will need these guys and an existing relationship may help you later #JourneyOfALearner

In 2013, a label wanted to sign @officialwaje and after months of negotiation they walked away. They wanted to give a lot of money. A house, a car etc. We insisted we didn't want that. Waje was driving a crv that was due for change but we said no #JourneyOfALearner

Why? We had a plan. She had a place to live. She could move around. What we needed was money for good production and marketing and promotions. We had done a 22 day media tour promoting her brand and music. We knew what the next steps were #JourneyOfALearner

That deal fell through because of a clause that tied Waje to the deal longer than she needed to be even if she repaid the investment and still gave a year and a half of returns to the label #JourneyOfALearnee

We walked away and the thing is, if the label had signed Waje, they would have recouped the money they were paying THAT YEAR! "I wish" was a hit and Glo deal among other things came through

That deal hurt us at the time sha but we did what we had to do and it paid off. If things turned out different, outcomes would be different but we never know. #JourneyOfALearner m

My point with this rant is.Let's ALL be guided. To speak on this matter requires that we are aware of what the content of the agreements are and what the A, B and C stories are. Until then
