I can hardly overstate how huge and tragic a failure the Palestinian leadership has been over the past 20 years (longer, really). Abbas spent every years since he took office giving away leverage, and *now* wants to take a stand. With what power exactly?
Meanwhile Hamas likes to present itself as something different, when in fact it's just another Arab regime with all its corruption, nepotism, hypocrisy, shady links, and gross disregard for the lives, human rights, and welfare of its own citizens.
Never has such a supremely moral cause found itself in the hands of such mediocre and incompetent men (and yes, they're all men). The question shouldn't be why the Palestinian cause is in such shape, rather the surprise is that we continue to have a cause despite these idiots.
