What I would seriously question about Cummings statement:

- Threat to personal safety in London during lockdown (I'd accept it now)
- No emergency childcare option in London
- Driving 260 miles with high risk of becoming ill during the journey

What I would seriously question about Cummings statement (cont):

- Driving 30-odd miles to test your eyesight

Plus various things I don't follow on who had covid when, previous denials of things now admitted, and lack of any sense of how this affects wider policy.
Overall hard to shake the feeling that what matters most though is not the detail but the spirit. That the government's current and future coronavirus messaging is fatally undermined by the belief it doesn't apply to them. Today may even have made that worse.
And from a government comms perspective, horrible. Three days now dominated by one story of whether senior figures believe the rules apply to them. And from what we see today that's because they don't understand the problem. Mentality of a clique rather than a government.
Don't know if Cummings survives in post or not. Fairly certain Johnson does whatever happens. But it will be a negative against them for some time to come.
