You're a member of a sketch comedy troop. It's literally your job to be edgy, outlandish, offensive, and stupid. Comedians should only apologize for not being funny. And I seriously doubt Chris Rock lost any sleep over your "terrible decision."
What's fascinating about this is the implied "death sentence," retroactive apologizing, and "retconning" of public morality.

In 2000, blackface was certainly considered offensive, but it was acceptable in many contexts, like sketch comedy, halloween, frat parties, etc.
"Cancel culture" holds the past accountable to the current morality. You must apologize for things that were entirely acceptable in their own contexts or risk being cast into oblivion.
Brett Kavanaugh's beer chugging days were straight out of the Gen-X experience; it was all considered "progressive" in the '80s and '90s. Current morality deems such (admittedly crude) behavior "problematic" in 2018, and you must condemn yourself or risk cancellation.
Note as well the degree to which so-called "conservatives" are in thrall to this bizarre state of affairs. How many of them gleefully condemned the governor of Virginia or Justin Trudeau for their grave "sins" of appearing in blackface?
And it was actually these "liberals" who resisted (to a degree) "cancel culture" and survived their attempted decapitations.
The biggest myth of modern America is that it's "liberal," "liberated," "permissive," or even "decadent." We live in a hyper-puritanical—and, yes, ultimately hyper-Christian—society that has rearranged "sinner," "heretic," and "saint."
FWIW, I've never appeared in blackface. But if I had, I wouldn't give a shit. Blackface has *always* been an outrageous joke. If you're offended by it, it means you're a repressed prude, who should undergo psychoanalysis, or at least remove the 10-ft. pole out of your ass.
