Nehru's #AksaiChin Blunder! A must read. Both Indian & Chinese maps showed AksaiChin to be in India. In the 1950s Chinese built a road through Indian territory. Pt Nehru came to know but chose to keep quiet. Didnt confront China either. Historical blunders google.com/amp/s/m.rediff…
India Today has accessed Ladakh Tehsil map of early 1909 and Chinese official maps of 1893 showing #Aksaichin & Galwan river valley, Depsang etc to be part of Ladakh, India. Yet India did not press territorial claims effectively.
In 1960 Lt Gen SPP Thorat, then army commander eastern command after a year long assessment war gamed Chinese incursions. Exercise Lal Qila was conducted. Sadly professional military advice was ignored by VK Krishna Menon, then Raksha Mantri, I report indiatoday.in/india/north/st…
Chinese attack came exactly where Exercise Lal Qila war gamed. Both Krishna Menon (Nehru's favourite Raksha Mantri) & Lt Gen BM Kaul (Nehru appointed General) ignored professional military advise. Result was 1962 disaster. Nehru was shocked Menon didn't share Ex Lal Qila details.
But when professional military advice is taken India has given China "A Bloody Nose' like at #NathuLa in 1967. Barely 5 years after the 1962 setback & 2 years after 1965 war, Chinese tried to forcibly stop Indian army from erecting a fence at Nathu La. The Chinese MMG opened up.
Indian army troops not only silenced the MMG by hurling a grenade into the MMG bunker but the Indian artillery opened up with everything they had pin point targeting Chinese defences at Nathu La. By some accounts over 400 Chinese soldiers were killed & their 'white flag' came up.
Again in 1986 Chinese troops transgressed the LAC & days before border talks pitched tents in Sumdorong Chu (Arunachal Pradesh). India lodged a protest. More Chinese troops came in & built 'permanent defences'/structures. Gen Sundarji airlifted an entire Brigade across & deployed
The Chinese didn't know what hit them. They threatened India with a lesson worse than 24 years earlier in 1962. Chinese army started mobilizing. 20,000 troops+PsyOps. Gen Sundarji stood firm. Army & IAF undertook massive deployment Ops. Visible Stand off continued for over a year
With Indian army occupying heights, Chinese patrol remained trapped. After a lot of bluff & bluster China quietly sought permission to maintain troops and ultimately the Chinese withdrew. Some reports indicate top Chinese army theatre leadership was sacked after Sumdorong Chu Ops
