San Antonio’s police union contract is one of the worst in the nation. 70% of officers fired for misconduct have gotten their jobs back under this contract. The contract expires next year. Mayor @Ron_Nirenberg are you going to renegotiate the contract as organizers have demanded?

Well I just learned that Minneapolis is still in the middle of negotiating its police union contract. The contract that helps fired officers get reinstated and that has these sections in it about officers who shoot people.
In fact, if I’m reading this contract correctly, it looks like the officers who were fired for killing #GeorgeFloyd will probably get their jobs back because they didn’t get at least 3 days of paid administrative leave (I think?) as required by the contract. See how this works?
So the city has to either fire them right away and risk them getting reinstated or wait 3 days and piss off the entire country. Locked into a contract with the police union.

If not for this section of Minneapolis PD’s use of force policy, that second officer would 100% not even be under consideration for discipline. minneapolismn.gov/police/policy/…
Note that the MAJORITY of police departments DO NOT require officers to intervene if they see another officer using excessive force. useofforceproject.org
Note that the Duty to Intervene policy was only adopted by Minneapolis PD in 2016, after organizers successfully pressured the city into changing their use of force policy.
