As we get shocked over the official figures of over 3,000 infections, (3, 039 to be exact) and the loss of 88 precious Pakistani lives, let us not forget that we really don’t know how many have been infected due to the policies of the boneheaded Imran regime.
Even today, the nuclear state of Pakistan, under the installed and #Selected regime has only tested 547,030 people out of 210 million population. That is 0.26% of the total populace. In three months, the state, with all its resources and foreign aid has barely managed to test
one fourth or 25% of the 1% population. This meagre amount of the tested is despite the tall claims by the NDMA Chairman and Minister Incharge Asad Umar telling us that we will be testing at least 50,000 people every day. Despite the horrific and exponential rise in the number of
the official figures of the infected and the deceased, even in last 24 hours, the official figures of the tested in entire Pakistan including AJK and GB was less than 15,000 (14,972 to be exact).
On the other hand, all speed bumps, roadblocks, hindrances, that could possibly arrest the electrifying speed of the infections, have been demolished by the Imran Khan regime.
Whole country has been opened up as the mass incubation centre for the enhanced growth of the Corona Virus by the Imran Khan regime.
Not just that, but to ensure what I call the Engineered Herd Immunity on Steroids (EHIS), anybody who tried to slow down the infection rate has been attacked viciously by the goons and the attack dogs of the Imran junta.
The political novices of the PTI in Sindh, including its Governor and their childish federal ministers incited every section of the society to stop the Sindh govt who really took the lead against the Corona Virus Pakistan by taking bold and imaginative steps.
The rot has started from the top. It was Imran Khan who has consistently given non-serious, unscientific and contradictory statements almost mimicking goofy US President Trump.
Let us not forget that it was Imran Khan who said the Virus was not a serious threat, it was a mild flu that affected less than 2% people, it was not deadly, most experienced no symptoms, it only affected old and ailing, everybody didn’t need testing, economy was more important
distributed the paltry amount of Rs 12,000 per family by arranging huge crowds and enhancing the infections in the process. Earlier, the regime through its mismanagement had created Taftan and Raiwand fiasco, besides allowing hundreds of people unscreened and untested from Taftan
and the airports.
We cannot forget that after Wuhan breakout, Pakistan was strategically in a better position to start preparing for the deadly virus since Pakistan is a next door neighbour of China. Pakistan also had hundreds of its students stranded in Wuhan. Imran regime just wasted time
till mid March. It neither took any steps using the federal organizations, nor activated important constitutional bodies like the Council of Common Interests and the bicameral parliament. All this time, Imran govt engaged in victimization and incarceration of the critical voices
of the political opposition, civil society and the media. Let there be no doubt that the National Command and Operations Centre (NCOC) was the brainchild of the powerful security establishment that has overlorded the country for almost the entire history. Despite the fact that
the NCOC and the National Coordination Committee (NCC) bodies created in mid March have no constitutional legitimacy, they did serve as the only national bodies to fight the Virus. Without these bodies, we would have been in the worst circumstances today.
All attempts to create a national consensus have failed. First the conference convened by the government itself through the Speaker of the National Assembly was sabotaged by the government itself. The Prime Minister spoke in the conference repeating his erroneous talking points
and left without listening to the perspective of the opposition parties. The infuriated and insulted opposition leaders walked out of the session after the incendiary act of the premier. After that, the govt almost locked the parliament out till the opposition requisitioned the
sessions of both the houses. Just two days before the custodians of both the houses would be forced to hold the requisitioned sessions, the govt finally gave in and summoned both the houses.
While Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly, Shehbaz Sharif didn’t show up, using the medical advice of his doctor, due to his lower immunity, being the cancer survivor and suffering from other ailments as well, the Prime Minister, didn’t bother to show up either.
The non serious attitude of the Prime Minister, who missed another opportunity to reinvent himself, has created a national crisis of the unprecedented proportions. The status quo is untenable. As we await another meeting of the National Coordination Committee tomorrow, the
people of Pakistan deserve a set of concrete policies and actions to reverse the tide and emerging apocalypse. Silence and inaction is downright criminal and would bring unimaginable havoc. Realize the dangers, rise above and do the right thing.
