I find it pretty worrying to see how the pretty fragile consensus around the governments actions, giving benefit of the doubt, some leeway to account for the extraordinary situation, seems to have shattered
It was always threatening to breach the surface, since we are pretty angry and polarised from 3 years of Brexit, and Cummings was obviously the perfect storm because he is so totemic of our polarisation over brexit. But before last week felt like there was still some eqalibrium
I can totally understand why it’s got to this, and I don’t think this govt is particularly trustworthy, but it is a worry that if there is another upsurge of the virus (which seems pretty likely) that still does need to be general public buying and leeway given to the government
I wonder if there may still be a prospect of some sort of national unity government but my sense is even the level headed Keir Starmer is being pulled a kind of tit-for-tat political discourse which may not help fight the virus
