If you see people on social media use Korean candlelight protests as an example of nonviolent protests, to undermine the BLM protests right now
Tell them to shut the fuck up
The mayor of Seoul went ABOVE AD BEYOND that year to never escalate things with protesters
- there was no curfew
- public transportation changed their schedule to accommodate the protesters
- extra public bathrooms made available to all
- manholes, vents and other potential danger spots checked
What the candlelight protests prove is that if the city government has a clear line of policy of NONVIOLENCE, and they also are able to actually control the police force, then you get nonviolent protests
A protester was injured in 2015 from a water cannon aimed at his head, and died September 2016
Starting October 2016, mayor of Seoul Park Won-soon declared he would no longer provide the police with access to the water hydrants for water cannons

It's #InternationalMensDay and I just want to thank my dad, who, when I asked him if it was ok that I didn't want him to walk me down the aisle at my wedding, said "good, that always made me uncomfortable too, you're not something to give away."
My uncles are all fairly conventional older Korean men, somewhat distant from their kids, but my dad never was. I always wonder if it was because he didn't do military service, and he always seemed distinctly uncomfortable with a certain kind of military, patriarchal masculinity.
One time when my mom and I were having a major argument about something (read: full-on screaming fight), my husband got so uncomfortable that he retreated to one of the bedrooms. My dad followed him and said, reassuringly, "Don't be afraid. Sometimes, love is struggle."

"Just experienced this. I checked in and I was assigned to the backmost seat. Afterwards I got on the plane, and then the attendant told me to move my seat without any explanation. I didn't know why and I asked thanks to the help of my friend Hoonmaru's translation." 1/3

A couple bare facts
- Effect publicly stated online that Senika had done sex work. She denies this. Even if she had, however, that was not his information to disclose.
- Effect publicly stated online that Senika was sexually assaulted. She had not permitted him to do so.
Publicly disseminating “information” about a former partner’s private past, especially their personal trauma, in an attempt to make it part of a weaponized narrative against that partner, is a fucking scumbag thing to do, period.
Even without choosing to believe one side or the other, that much is clear as day.
