One of the quirky weird things about being excommunicated from the climate club is sharing arguments, me getting personally criticized (denier!) & then seeing the ideas soon after expressed as new and accepted🤷‍♂️

May our scenario misuse paper soon also be conventional wisdom!
This climate club laundering of the "long plateau" in CO2 emissions appears to be a follow on to the WSJ article last week on our recent preprint

Of course, broad acceptance among the climate club of an emissions "long plateau" would be fantastic news because it is absolutely impossible to reconcile with IPCC baseline scenarios in the near term & highlights systemic issues in climate scenarios

My experiences w/ scientist & journalists working in public & behind scenes to have me fired from a prominent outlet for writing about peer-reviewed research and IPCC colors my views, but the Cotton op-ed was nonetheless problematic...
I don’t have answers, but one path forward for elected & government officials in particular is to have prominent outlets like the @nytimes have a special op-ed page for just these individuals
It is a public service to know what politicians believe, even (especially) if abhorrent

I've taught @CUBoulder since 2001 but I really didn't think much about diversity until I starting teaching sports governance @CUBuffs Athletics in 2014
I moved from teaching almost exclusively white kids to classes that actually looked like America
That woke me up
Some data...
At @CUBoulder Arts & Sciences (my campus home) we had 16,235 full-time undergrad students in Fall 2019
Of those, 463 (3.0%) were African American
% from 2018 to 2019 dropped ~6%
My program @CUBoulderENVS (Environmental Studies) is not diverse
We have 792 full-time undergrads
7 (0.9%) are African-American
None in our freshmen class

In my classes and talks most people are surprised to learn that US (mainland) hurricane landfalls have actually decreased since 1900
Crazy, right?

There has also been a decrease in US (mainland) landfalls of the strongest hurricanes
We recently had the longest period on record of no such landfalls
2006-2019= 3 major US hurricanes
1915-1928= 13 (the most over 14 yrs since 1900)
