Breaking: @CQCpressoffice analysis of deaths in care find a threefold increase in deaths of those with a #learningdisability during the pandemic in comparison with last year #covid19
Figures released today by the @CQCpressoffice show between 10 April and 15 May 386 people died - 206 from #coviv19 - compared to 165 during the same period last year
Some of these patients will have had autism, but there isn't a clear number for those with autism alone (but this is true of all the data sets so far)
Those deaths analysed by the @CQCpressoffice show a higher rate of death from #covid19 in 55-64 year olds - this is younger than in #covid19 deaths accross the general population
Surely these figures combined with the significant increase in notifications to the @leder_team programme point to an issue which needs to be looked at? @NHSEngland @PHE_uk
The CQC's figures include, domiciliary care, supported accommodation, residential care services and independent hospitals
It is not mandatory for providers to report deaths to the CQC and so figures will likely underestimate deaths - although we don't know that for certain
Sorry small correction to this - it is mandatory for providers to report deaths but is not mandatory for them to say whether a person had a learning disability
