The number of death registrations last week (w/e 15/5) was high as Register Offices caught up following VE Day closures on Fri 8 May
We were subsequently hoping to see a big drop in registrations and “excess” deaths this week

The North East was 40% above, the East of England 30%, and Yorkshire & The Humber 29%
Whereas the South West was 8% above and Wales 13%

This was slightly more than the total number of “excess” deaths above the 5-yr weekly average (2,348)
51% of COVID-related deaths were in hospital settings
42% in care homes

And 48,106 across the UK
The last 9 weeks have seen over 56k “excess” deaths above 5-yr weekly averages registered across E&W
And just under 62k “excess” deaths across the UK

Hospitals = 27,945 COVID deaths and 17,679 (42%) deaths above 5-yr avgs
Care homes = 12,724 COVID deaths and 25,940 (137%) deaths above 5-yr avgs
Private homes = 1,968 COVID deaths and 13,958 (67%) deaths above 5-yr avgs
